On Sept. 30, Bitget announced that its Protection Fund had been successfully replenished to over $300 million following the financial fallout from a Sept. 24 security breach. The platform positions this fund as an extra layer of customer protection, kept entirely separate from the reserves that back user account balances.
According to the official announcement, the fund absorbed roughly $388 million as a result of the incident, though user account balances stayed intact and accurate. Bitget fulfilled a Sept. 28 promise to rebuild the fund to a minimum of $300 million within a week, finishing the top-up two days ahead of schedule.
While the press release omitted the exact amount of fresh capital injected, Bitget’s fund tracking page notes that its valuation relies on prices recorded daily at midnight UTC.
What the restored backstop covers
Per Bitget’s outlined fund rules, clients can file claims if their accounts are breached, or if funds are lost or stolen due to platform-wide incidents that users did not cause through their own behavior or trading activity.
The exchange holds the authority to review claims and audit impacted accounts, with final decisions depending on the results of those investigations.
Merely qualifying to file a claim does not ensure that a specific loss will be refunded. Furthermore, this recent funding update does not alter the evaluation procedure or mean that payouts have already been finalized.

Bitget maintains that customer reserves secure standard account balances, whereas the Protection Fund serves as an extra financial buffer. A separate reserve audit published for 19 covered assets showed an overall ratio of 131%—with every individual asset exceeding 100%—based on data captured at 09:00 UTC on Sept. 29.
A 2023 advisory published by the PCAOB’s Office of the Investor Advocate cautioned that proof-of-reserves reports do not constitute full audits, may leave out liabilities or borrowed capital, and cannot guarantee the future availability of assets.
Asset withdrawals remain subject to their regular network and token schedules. A Sept. 30 service update from Bitget confirmed that USDT withdrawals are now live across Ethereum, BSC, Solana, and Tron.
The company’s operational schedule lists Oct. 2 at 08:00 UTC for bringing back the remaining cryptocurrencies, fiat options, and peer-to-peer services. Users waiting on those features are still dealing with a timeline distinct from the recently announced fund restoration.
